Day visit

Snowdrops at Devonshire Mill

Devonshire Mill, Pocklington, YO42 1NN
Snowdrops for event

Description

YGT’s first garden visit of 2024 was to Devonshire Mill. The brick-built Mill is so called as it was built using wood from the stables at nearby Londesborough which had belonged to the 4th Lord Burlington, Duke of Devonshire. The Pocklington Beck runs through the garden and would have powered the flour mill – what was once the mill pond is now a vegetable garden. Our hosts, Chris and Sue Bond have owned it since 1992. After an introductory talk we were invited to explore the different areas of the garden, two orchards and a woodland area with snowdrops growing in drifts, hellebores and ferns. We finished our visit with tea/coffee and cake and scones.
