Set in the Yorkshire Wolds, Birdsall House has been the home of the Willoughby family who have used the natural landscape to create a suitable setting for it over a 200 year period. Although the hall had been built around the start of the 17th century, the designed landscape that can be seen today only started taking shape in the early 18th century. This was developed incrementally over the next 150 years by successive generations with advice sought from designers such as Thomas Knowlton and possibly Francis Richardson and Thomas White
