A park of the late C17 probably with earlier origins, a water garden and pleasure grounds of c 1718-30 which were extended to include the ruins of Fountains Abbey from 1768.

Sutton Park is the site of an Elizabethan manor house that was acquired by the Harland family in the early 17th century. A new hall was built in the mid-18th century, with involvement of Thomas Atkinson and plasterwork attributed to Cortese. An undated plan (c. 1784-1801) by the landscape designer, Adam Mickle II, detailed proposed alterations to the grounds and park, although current evidence suggests that his proposals were not carried out.

Gardens and extensive pleasure grounds with grottoes, rustic bridges and rockwork laid out from 1796 to c 1820 under the direction of Adam Mickle the second and others.

The grounds of the Retreat asylum, now mental health hospital, were designed in 1794 to 1797 and enlarged in 1828. Includes a Quaker burial ground (1855).

Parkland and pleasure grounds developed through the C18 and early C19 which include earthwork remains of formal late C17 gardens.

Thicket Priory park and garden was formerly the site of a Benedictine nunnery founded in about 1190 located alongside the River Derwent. After the Dissolution, a house was built adjacent to the old nunnery complex. An axial walk and tree avenues, typical of late 17th and early 18th century gardens, were laid out in a small parkland.
