Site search
- Keyword(s).
- A keyword search will search all record content, including titles, descriptions and report sections. This may result in additional records to the one you want if you are looking for a specific site.
- While we have tried to be consistent, you may need to try alternative spellings for places, features or names e.g. Lancelot Brown or Capability Brown.
- For exact phrases such as 'deer park' or a specific name, enclose keywords within quotes (e.g. “deer park”, “Thomas White”) to avoid searches that return individual words that may not be relevant.
- Map.
- The tree symbols denote a site record. Clicking a tree will provide a link to the site record. You can zoom the map in and out using the +/- buttons.

Ilkley Memorial Gardens
First World War memorial landscape, 1922, by John James Joass of London, with Second World War memorials added in the early 1950s.

Ingleby Manor and Greenhow Park
Once part of an extensive estate belonging to the Foulis family, Ingleby Manor and Greenhow Park form a landscape designed over a period of 700 years to take advantage of the natural topography. Separate until the early 17th century, it was Greenhow that was developed first as a small park for the Meynell family by the early 14th century. Ingleby was a subsidiary property until the mid-16th century, when the 2nd Lord Eure built Ingleby Manor to the south of the village.
Japanese Garden at Grantley Hall
Naturalistic Japanese stroll garden constructed around 1910 for Lord and Lady Furness, including two ponds linked by a stream set within a ravine.

Kenwood Hall
Kenwood House (later Hall) was built in 1844 for the wealthy cutler, George Wostenholm, as part of a wider development of this part of Sheffield. He engaged Robert Marnock of the nearby Sheffield Botanic Garden to lay out the grounds of the house and also plan the surrounding area that was to be developed for housing between 1851-3.
The hall is now run as a hotel but much of the original design is extant.

Kilnwick Hall

Kilnwick Percy Hall
Picturesque 18th-century park with mature woodland, ornamental water, church and deserted village site.

Kiplin Hall
The designed landscape around the early 17th century Kiplin Hall dates from the 1720s when it was bought by Christopher Crowe, although most of what we see today was created in the early 19th century by the Earl and Countess of Tyrconnel. Their successor, Admiral Carpenter, engaged the architect and landscape designer William Eden Nesfield between 1874 and 1880.

Kippax Park
Kippax Park was an important designed landscape from at least the early 14th century. Its large enclosed park was leased by Thomas Bland in 1595 and he built a mansion on the site of the former hunting lodge. This would become the focus of the designed landscape that changed little over the next 300 years. The designer, Adam Mickle II, was asked to prepare an improvement plan in 1787 but there is little evidence that any of his ideas were carried out. In 1928, the hall was abandoned and finally demolished in 1955 to make way for open cast mining across its site and much of the former parkland. This has now returned to open fields and with some perimeter woodland, parts of the park wall and the walls of the former kitchen garden surviving.

Kirby Hall
The designed landscape of Kirby Hall was largely shaped by the decision of Stephen Thompson to build himself a new hall in 1746. Stephen’s brother and nephew continued to develop the grounds from 1764, employing the designers, Adam Mickle II and possibly Thomas White. Later generations of the Thompson modified the landscape and by 1907, the parkland had reached its greatest extent. While most of the 18th century hall was demolished in 1920, the historic designed landscape is largely extant.

Kirkby Hall
The Kirkby Hall estate lies on a large, open plateau overlooking the River Swale to the east. It comprised an 18th-century designed landscape with a long, narrow woodland terrace and garden buildings, landscape park, lake, stream and pleasure grounds, designed by its owner, William Aislabie of Studley Park.
