Site search
- Keyword(s).
- A keyword search will search all record content, including titles, descriptions and report sections. This may result in additional records to the one you want if you are looking for a specific site.
- While we have tried to be consistent, you may need to try alternative spellings for places, features or names e.g. Lancelot Brown or Capability Brown.
- For exact phrases such as 'deer park' or a specific name, enclose keywords within quotes (e.g. “deer park”, “Thomas White”) to avoid searches that return individual words that may not be relevant.
- Map.
- The tree symbols denote a site record. Clicking a tree will provide a link to the site record. You can zoom the map in and out using the +/- buttons.

Hawksworth Hall
The landscape that is seen today was largely developed over the period 1768-1786 by Walter Ramsden Beaumont Hawksworth [later Fawkes] (1746-1792) who consulted two landscape designers. The first was probably Antony Sparrow and the second Thomas White.
Hazelwood Park
Hazelwood was the seat of the Vavasour family for over 800 years, from the time of Domesday until the estate was put up for sale in 1907. In addition to Hazelwood, the Vavasours owned manors and land across Yorkshire and in Staffordshire.
Healaugh Hall
The Brooksbank family of Elland and Hackney bought the manor of Healaugh in 1714. Given the decline of the Elizabethan manor house (Healaugh Manor) on the former monastic site of Healaugh Park Priory and its associated deer park, they built a new house, Healaugh Hall. It was later also known as Healaugh Manor.
Healaugh Park and Manor
The designed landscape at Healaugh Park and Manor has three distinct phases of development spanning the thirteenth to eighteenth centuries. The medieval deer park, Healaugh Park, was established prior to 1217 and it evolved and changed through to the post medieval period and was still in use until at least 1707.
Heathcote, Ilkley
A formal garden designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens during the years 1906-11 as an integral part of the design of the house.
Hickleton Hall
Garden layout, mainly dating from the early C20, surrounding an C18 country house, set in parkland primarily of mid C19 and early C20 date.
High Melton Hall
The wealthy Fountayne family developed the site for over two hundred years from the late 17th century, reflecting the changes in style of gardens and parks. High Melton was a valued sporting estate used extensively by local hunts and recognised as having one of the finest partridge shoots in Yorkshire. This could have influenced the park’s development having the both sporting and aesthetic purposes.
High Royds Hospital
The grounds of an echelon-style psychiatric hospital, designed in 1884 by the West Riding county surveyor and opened in 1888.
Holme Hall
The designed landscape around Holme Hall dates back to the first half of the 13th century when a deer park was created to the north of the hall. The main phases of its development however were in the late 18th and early 19th century when the grounds around the present hall were laid out, largely to the design of Thomas White.
Hooton Pagnell Hall
The Hooton Pagnell estate has a long history, with the present hall dating back to the mid 15th century. However major work on the designed landscape only started with the purchase of the estate by the Warde family in 1704. Saint Andrew Warde made significant changes in the late 18th century, when land to the west was developed as a park and walled gardens were created in the immediate vicinity of the house.
