A park with medieval origins, and gardens probably of the early C18 possibly with earlier origins.

The building of Gisborough Priory in the early 12th century has been the major influence on the designed landscape that has surrounded it for the following 900 years. While only a small part remained after its dissolution in 1540, from the late 17th century onwards, the priory has determined how the grounds were laid out by the Chaloner family first for the old Gisborough Hall and then Longhull (later Gisborough Hall).

George Dillistone, who designed the garden at Goddards, is a neglected figure in garden history, despite the gardens he designed, the approval of his contemporaries, his extensive writing on garden design and planning, his importance in the history of the British Iris Society, and his founding role in the Institute of Landscape Architects.

The designed landscape at Goldsborough has developed over the last 500 years by its owners taking advantage of its natural beauty and favourable topography. A deer park had been created by the early 16th century. In the 18th century, the owners were inspired by the leading designers of the day, including possibly Stephen Switzer in the 1730s and then Richard Woods and Thomas White in the 1760s. In the 1920s Princess Mary, a keen gardener, had a key influence on the grounds adjacent to the hall that remains to this day.

The grounds of Grimston Garth, although on a small scale, are an excellent, largely unchanged, example of a landscape designed by the prolific late 18th-century landscape gardener Thomas White. The parkland retains his characteristic perimeter plantations, with a break on the east side providing a sea view from the delightful Gothic summer residence.

Grimston Park lies west of the village of Kirkby Wharfe about 2 miles south of Tadcaster on the A162. Its house and garden are an important example of the Italianate style of architecture and landscape design that was popular in the mid 19th century.

The designed landscape of Grinkle Park has been developed by its owners over the last 200 years, taking advantage of the natural surroundings but also enhancing it through careful management and planting. It was not until it was bought by Sir Charles Mark Palmer in 1865, that the innovative landscape we see today was created by its gardener, George Abbey.

Pleasure grounds laid out c 1749-7 by the then owner, William Aislabie, with cascades, ponds, rustic seats, follies and grottoes set in dramatic and varied natural scenery.
