Site search
- Keyword(s).
- A keyword search will search all record content, including titles, descriptions and report sections. This may result in additional records to the one you want if you are looking for a specific site.
- While we have tried to be consistent, you may need to try alternative spellings for places, features or names e.g. Lancelot Brown or Capability Brown.
- For exact phrases such as 'deer park' or a specific name, enclose keywords within quotes (e.g. “deer park”, “Thomas White”) to avoid searches that return individual words that may not be relevant.
- Map.
- The tree symbols denote a site record. Clicking a tree will provide a link to the site record. You can zoom the map in and out using the +/- buttons.

Clifton Park
A municipal park at the centre of Rotherham, opened in 1891 by the Prince of Wales. The park overlies the landscape of Clifton House which was laid out in the late C18.
Constable Burton Hall
Gardens of the C18 and C20 possibly with C17 origins, park with medieval origins and park landscaping which probably dates from the C18.
Copgrove Hall
The designed landscape around Copgrove Hall was developed in two major phases. The first was in the 1760s when the lake and southern parkland was put in to a design by Thomas White to complement the old hall. The second was in the third quarter of the 19th century with the development of the parkland north and east, after the present Copgrove Hall was constructed in the 1820s.
Crathorne Hall
Although Crathorne Hall was built between 1903 and 1906, it sits in a much older designed landscape using the dramatic river Leven valley as its central feature. Designed by the noted architects, Ernest George and Alfred Yeates for Lionel Dugdale, Crathorne Hall was the largest country house of the Edwardian era to be built. George and Yeates also laid out the grounds around the hall but it was another leading garden designer, William Goldring, who provided the design for an intricate rose garden and the layout for the kitchen garden and neighbouring orchard.
Crow Nest Park
A public park laid out by the Borough Engineer in the early 1890s, incorporating features from the grounds of an earlier country house.
Cusworth Hall
A landscape park laid out 1761-5 by Richard Woods to provide the setting for a mid C18 country house.
Dalton Hall
Pleasure grounds laid out 1723-37 for Sir Charles Hotham, fifth baronet, possibly with the involvement of Richard, third Earl of Burlington and with advice from Burlington's head gardener Thomas Knowlton.
Denton Park
The hall dating from the 1770s sits in a designed landscape that was first developed in the 16th century with extensive deer parks stretching from the river to the high moorland. Following the building of the present hall, the immediate grounds were remodelled over the next 50 years with the lake and kitchen garden complex being the main features. These remain, together with the immediate parkland, providing a suitable setting for the Grade 1 listed hall.
Dewsbury Cemetery
A public cemetery opened in 1860, laid out to a design by William Barratt with buildings by Jeremiah Marriott and Son, and extended in the late-C19.
Duncombe Park
Pleasure grounds of c 1718. The park was probably created in the early C18 and early to mid C19 partially on the site of a medieval deer park associated with Helmsley Castle.
