The landscape of Campsmount Park reflects the continued ownership by the Yarborough family from the 17th century to the 1930s. Thomas Yarborough (1687-1772) masterminded the development of Campsmount Park.

Gardens and a park laid out in the 1760s by Richard Woods, and parkland added in the late C18/early C19.

The designed landscape at Carlton Towers has been developed over 400 years by its owners, the Stapleton family. They employed the designers, Richard Woods and Thomas White in the 18th century and Charles Craigie-Halkett-Inglis in the 19th century. The current parkland is now at its largest extent, which is unusual for such estates.

The site of the late 18th century Dutch Farm at Carnaby is of particular historic interest retaining as it does significant remains, in its plan and water features, of a rare, albeit modest, example of a English version of Marie Antoinette’s Hameau de la Reine built in 1783 at Versailles.

Gardens, pleasure grounds and park with a mixture of geometric and less formal features developed c 1698-1738 by Charles Howard, third Earl of Carlisle and Sir John Vanbrugh (1664-1726)

Parkland with irregular lake laid out by William Emes c. 1787, a typical example of the work of a landscape gardener who executed commissions for many prominent landowners in England and Wales.

A public park opened in 1927.

A public cemetery opened in 1881 by the Sheffield Township Burial Board, designed by the Sheffield architectural practice of Messrs M E Hadfield and Son.

Cleveland Lodge park and garden is a well preserved example of a mid to late Victorian country villa and its associated designed landscape. Thomas Richardson, its creator, was an archetypal self-made man, whose wealth derived from investments in the leading technologies of the day such as the Stockton to Darlington railway.

The historic designed landscape at Clifton Castle is the vision of one owner, Timothy Hutton, who created a rustic picturesque landscape at the estate he inherited. He started around 1802 with the construction of a new mansion and then shaped the grounds around them. By the time he had completed the work in the 1830s, the fashion for such designed landscapes were falling out of favour. His successors also made few alterations and it remains to this day, a good example of a late picturesque designed landscape and one that Timothy Hutton would still recognise.
